Pray for Your Neighbors

Bless Every Home

In 1999 Pray Lubbock launched over 1,700 lighthouses of prayer at a commissioning service involving nearly 20 different churches held at Broadway Church of Christ.  The goal was simple: Commit to pray for your neighbors as regularly and as specifically as possible.  The number of lighthouses of prayer (households who had committed to pray) grew to over 2,000!

I'd like to pray for my neighbors. What can I do now?

Pray Lubbock is encouraging the Christians in our city to be come "Lights!" As defined by the organization, Bless Every Home, a light commits to be a light to the neighbors who live around you. The challenge involves praying, getting to know, getting involved and even sharing your story with your neighbors all at your own pace. When you sign up to be a light, you will download their app and receive a list of about 40 names of neighbors who live a round you. You will also be promted to pray each morning (with a suggested prayer or your own prayers) for five of your neighbors.  Through the app, you will also be able to keep track of prayers offered, conversations had, and activities with your neighbors.

What if my church wants to get involved?

Bless every Home encourages churches to get involved by challenging every member to be a light in their community.  It becomes a tool for praying for and meeting your neighbors and if you discover that they are not connected with a church, it is a natural way to invite them to go to church with you.
