Pastors Monthly Prayer Meeting
Monthly on the 2nd Wednesday at 9:00 AM
March 11 - Our next Monthly Gathering of Pastors Praying for the Church in Lubbock
One of our prayer responsibilities is the nature and condition of the Body of Christ in Lubbock. We know there is one Church in Lubbock - one Body made up of many members - our individual congregations and ministries across our city.
Ephesians 4:15-16 urges us to pay attention to how the Body functions; we are to be "fitted together and held together by what every joint supplies." Within this chapter is the urgency of keeping the unity of the Spirit as well as admonition to not grieve the Holy Spirit.
Our monthly prayer meetings are focusing specifically on the Body of Christ, and its individual members - that we would trust the Holy Spirit as our Advocate, Comforter and Teacher.
We believe that praying to submit to the control and direction of the Holy Spirit is as basic as Jesus' instructions to his disciples upon His departure: "Gathering them together, He commanded them not to leave Jerusalem, but to wait for what the Father had promised, 'Which,' He said, 'you heard of from Me.'" (Acts 1:4) Rob McCorkle, in his workbook, Transforming a City; Perspectives on a Biblical Revival, states, "You will have little impact in your city unless you are sourced by the Holy Spirit." (p. 7)
Being "sourced" by the Holy Spirit means turning to our Helper for divine passion, clear guidance, timely words to speak, divine unity, divine power, divine restraint. We believe that even though the local churches in Lubbock might be segmented into camps according to doctrinal issues, worship practices, social issues, or political ideologies, if we fundamentally believe the Holy Spirit and God's Word are the foundation of the Church and that Jesus is the Head and Cornerstone, we have much more in common than we have differences.
Join us for these monthly prayer times on the second Wednesday of each month at 9:00am at the Betty Hancock Parlor on Lubbock Christian University's Campus, 1902 Dover, and join other pastors in praying that the unction of the Holy Spirit will be the heartbeat of the Body of Christ in Lubbock. Upcoming dates are Mar. 11; Apr. 8; and May 13.
To find the Betty Hancock Parlor, enter the LCU campus on Dover Avenue. You can access Dover either from 19th Street or Chicago Avenue. Look for a building on the west side of the street with the name "Bozeman Room" on building (note the picture above). Walk to the west side of that building and you'll find doors in the center of the west side that open into the parlor. We will begin at 9:00 and afterwards, pastors are free to stay for another cup of coffee and the strengthening of bonds with one another.
