Underground Water Conservation District No. 1
Here's
how it started!
God brought several leaders of our city together
with this same desire.
To humble ourselves before the Lord in prayer and
fasting to entreat His throne for the blessing of rain: a
much needed healing for our land.
Even as plans were being made for this prayer
initiative, God began blessing us with moisture!
Our
concern is both for the agricultural economy of our area as
well as for the need for drinking water in the
municipalities across the region.
We did not plan a corporate
gathering, we mobilized congregations, prayer
groups and individuals to pray on the same day for rain.
Along
with thanking God for the rain received we encouraged
intercessors to agree in prayer
that:
-
the deficit in rainfall will be
replenished this year in the right amounts and the right
times
-
Lake Meredith and other reservoirs will be
“topped off” this year
-
The Canadian River watershed
needs to receive the rain in order to fill Lake Meredith
-
significant rain will restore the
underground water table
-
our South
Plains soil will be hydrated to the needed levels for our
crops by March and the rest of this year
-
all people
in agriculture-related businesses will experience peace
of mind by trusting in God's provision
-
farm
families on the verge of economic disaster will
experience divine provision as they await rain
What did we suggest congregations
do on that day? We made these suggestions:
We are asking the citizens
of the South Plains to set apart Sunday, January 25, 2004 as
a day of prayer and fasting for rain on the South Plains.
Congregations may participate in a variety of ways:
·
Organize the entire service around the our
need for rain
·
Include our need for rain in the morning
prayer
·
Have agricultural workers stand and pray
especially for them as well as for rain
·
Hold a special afternoon or evening prayer
service for rain
·
Encourage congregational members to fast in
some way on the 25th i.e. fast for one meal, fast
until sundown,
·
Replace the coffee urns and boxes of donuts on
January 25th with signs reminding people to fast and pray
for rain.
You
may pray without fasting and contribute to this
effort. However is you choose to fast, in addition to
praying, there are a variety of ways that individuals can fast and
pray for
rain:
-
Begin
a seven-day fast on Monday, January 19, 2004
-
Begin
a three-day fast on Friday, January 23, 2004
-
Observe
an all-day fast on Sunday, January 25
-
Observe
a 24-hour fast beginning after the evening meal on Saturday,
January 24 and break the fast with the evening meal on
Sunday, January 25.
-
