“Pray,
Lubbock!” – Another Opportunity for United Prayer
The Lord has created another avenue in this city for fervent
united prayer! The
management of radio station KAMY, 90.1 FM, has invited
Steve to lead prayer for our city and individuals each
weekday morning as part of their regular program-ming.
This twenty-minute segment will air live at 10:07
AM Monday through Friday.
“Pray, Lubbock!” will encourage listeners to pray
daily for city-focused issues and needs.
There will also be an opportunity for listeners to
call with prayer requests to be prayed for during the
broadcast.
It is hoped that “Pray, Lubbock!” will accomplish
several objectives:
Ø
Facilitate
unified prayer on behalf of our city
Ø
Create
opportunities for personal prayer requests to become
miracles that glorify the Lord
Ø
Educate
listeners in practicing strategic prayer for our city
Ø
Create
an atmosphere for revival in our city
Ø
Remind
Lubbock to pray
Over the course of each week, prayers will cover
educational systems, businesses and economic institutions,
Christian congrega-tions and ministries, individuals and
families, and governments and civic entities. Each month,
prayers will target spiritual freedom, revival of God’s
people, salvation for the lost, prophetic inter-cession
and God’s presence in Lubbock sought through worship,
praise and testimony.
Encourage your congregation to tune in and pray.
Pastors
United in Prayer
Last
month’s prayer meeting was a blessing at Community
Baptist Church. As one pastor put it after the prayer time
and meal, “We were treated like royalty.” “Thank you” to Rev. Larry Brooks and to his
gracious congregation!
This
month we will meet on the 19th floor of the
Metro Tower for prayer.
(The Pray Lubbock News page of our website has
information about parking around the Metro Tower).
Come join with your co-pastors and man your post as
gatekeeper guarding the city through prayer.
Following
the prayer time, we have been invited to lunch at
Cathedral of Praise in the cafeteria of the former Posey Elementary School building.
Cathedral of Praise is just minutes from the Metro
Tower. Travel
east on Broadway; turn right on MLK Blvd. then left on E
13th. After
crossing Redbud, the building is on the right. (1301 E.
Redbud)
The April Prayer meeting will take place at the Metro Tower.
If your congregation would like to provide lunch
that day (17 April) contact our office.
On 15 May, we will pray and eat at Pathway Assembly
of God, with pastors Lauro and Evangelina Hernandez
hosting.
University
Leaders’ Fresh Encounter Study Is Leading to a
Concert
of Praise on Campus
About a
dozen university ministry leaders have been meeting together
to study Fresh Encounter, a study of Biblical
and historical revival and spiritual awakening.
This group meets on Wednesday mornings, 8:30 – 9:30
AM at Christ in Action, 2406 Broadway.
Plans
are now being made for a Concert of Praise on campus on 11
April 2002 enveloping the concept of corporate confession
and repentance into the evening of praise.
Richard Smith of Levi Ministries is working with
these leaders to organize this assembly of worship and
confession.
There
will be an event-and-grounds-use meeting on Monday, 25 March
at 10:30 AM on the Tech campus.
If your university ministry leader would like to
attend this meeting, be informed and provide leadership for
this event, contact the Pray Lubbock office.
Pray
Lubbock’s Email and Website Are Back On-Line
If you tried to Email Steve or Joy between 15 February and 3
March, you, no doubt, got an error message.
Even our website was down (and feared completely
lost!) during about a week of that time.
However, our cyber-connection is again in operation.
“Thanks” are in order to Neil Baldridge, Elder at
Vandelia Church of Christ, and Mike Cisneros, of Combus
Technology for their rescue and restoration efforts.
Pray Lubbock Director Finishes Work at
Fuller Theological Seminary
For
the last seven years Steve Doles has been working toward a
Doctor of Ministry degree at Fuller Theological Seminary,
Pasadena, CA. His
completion deadline was 1 March 2002, and true to form, on
that day (and not one day before) he mailed his Ministry
Focus Paper. This
250-page paper, “The Theological Foundation and Strategy
of Pray Lubbock – A Prayer-Dominated, City-Mobilizing
Ministry,” has required a great deal of time over the last
several months; but the process of writing it has also
brought light to major milestones and vision for the future. Some of this information will be available soon on
www.praylubbock.com.
Pastors
Prayer Summit
Pray
Lubbock has always promoted increased prayer and the
deepening of relationships.
To aid our focus in these directions, a Pastors
Prayer Summit is scheduled for 29-30 April 2002. This
Monday-to-Tuesday event will take place at Floydada Baptist
Camp, beginning at 1:00 PM Monday, and conclude with lunch
on Tuesday.
Registration
forms are included with this newsletter.
Cost will be $50, which will include one night’s
lodging and three meals.
Plan now to make this a priority on your spring
calendar. Call
a colleague whom you know would enjoy time away with the
Lord; make arrangements to ride together.
More Pastors Discover Fresh Encounter
Another pastors small group has formed to study Fresh
Encounter together.
Gary Kirksey of City View Christian Fellowship is
leading this study. If
you are interested in participating, beginning Monday March
18 through April 29, you may call Gary at 771-2700 for more
information. These
meetings will be held at 2610 Avenue A from 10:30 AM to
noon. Lunch
together, afterwards, will always be an option.
Missing the first session does not prevent your
involvement.
