From the Word

Blessing Our Buildings and Land

This is what the LORD Almighty, the God of Israel, says: “When I bring them back from captivity, the people in the land of Judah and in its towns will once again use these words: ‘The LORD bless you, O righteous dwelling, O sacred mountain.’” Jer. 31:23

Isn’t it fascinating that we should bless the buildings (homes and businesses) and mountains (or in our case the plains) where we live? We are admonished to bless not only the people on our blocks, but also the dwellings and soil! Praying for neighbors should include blessings over the homes and property. This is a Biblical practice of acknowledging that every material thing comes from the Lord and is capable of receiving and being a blessing. Jesus said that it is possible for the rocks themselves to cry out praises to our God. If I have a choice of living in a blessed house or a house without a blessing, I’ll choose the blessed one. Let’s give that gift to our neighbors!

“I’m here — learning this job has been good. Derek Prince’s book, Shaping History through Prayer and Fasting, has been helpful.

“Let your Light shine before men.” … Matt. 5:16

Looking forward to a Tech Terrace prayer walk. ...Jeanna Lee

Lighthouse Testimonies

Drug Dealer Rehabilitates

I began to pray for my neighborhood because of Pray Lubbock. Later I felt impressed to bake a chocolate cake for a young man across the street from me (drug dealer who hired prostitutes). I am almost 70, so I went over and asked him if he would help me get to the Graham Festival. Praise the Lord, he went with me! He came home with me for a Coke and he prayed the sinner’s prayer. We became good friends. He stopped selling drugs and hiring prostitutes. Later I saw he was moving out, so I asked him where he was going. He said, “I’m moving to my mother’s. I’ve got to get my life straightened out.”

Recently he called me and said he put himself into drug rehab and as soon as he gets out he would be coming to see me. He thanked me three times during our conversation and said, “The good Lord told me to call when I woke up this morning.” He never used to talk like that. I think he called so I could repeat his story to you! …Beverly Woolverton

Blessed by Answers

I just want to let you know that I am still praying for my neighbors. One of my neighbors, I’ve learned, has congestive heart failure. Another has frequent relationship problems for which she feels free to call for prayer (it is my privilege). Another had a car accident last week. One is a student at Tech and is working a job. I am so blessed when I get to see God’s answers. …Verna Pool

Please pray for and provide volunteer support to Fourth Corps (youth service organization) and Broadway Festivals/Fourth on Broadway (the nation’s largest free July 4th family celebration that is not funded by alcohol/tobacco interests). ...Jim Robinson

Fresh Ideas from Lubbock Lighthouses

Are there other lighthouses or Christian families on your block or in your target area? Try getting together once a week/month/quarter to have a joint prayer time for your prayer target area. Don’t forget to cover any area schools, churches, businesses, etc. in prayer. If someone kept a journal, you’d be surprised how the Lord answers many of your prayers!

Each morning during devotional time write down a house. Whenever you go past the house that day, pray for the occupants. I know my “drive-by prayers” bless the neighbors, but it also blesses me. As I continue to drive, I am more relaxed and my mind is on others. Even the Loop 289 construction is not as irritating as it could be. …Laura Hopkins

What Is this Decal in My Flash?

Pray Lubbock had the opportunity to purchase lighthouse decals at a reduced price. We took the liberty of purchasing these decals for you lighthouses to display in your windows, if you wish. We’re sending them with our prayers that the decal might call you to pray, challenge you to be light, and encourage Kingdom opportunities with those who visit your homes and ask about the decal.  To request a decal, contact joy@praylubbock.com.

We hope you don’t feel like you have to register as a lighthouse with Mission America (www.lighthousemovement.com) after you read the back of the decal, but feel free to do so if you wish.

“I am the Light of the world. He that follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but will have the Light of Life.”

Signaling Lighthouse Coordinators

We still need lighthouse coordinators! In our last Flash we informed you about the need to better organize our prayer efforts over the city. Lighthouse coordinators would help map city lighthouses, promote fellowship and encouragement, initiate prayer walks, and ensure adequate prayer coverage of neighborhood schools, churches, businesses, etc. If this sounds like an opportunity for you, please contact our office or mark the response section above and let us know. We will contact you and your pastor with more information.

Prayer by Graham

Did you know that Billy Graham was the honorary chairman for the 2001 National Day of Prayer Task Force? He wrote a “Prayer for the Nation” that was prayed at all National Day of Prayer observances across the United States. In case you missed Lubbock’s observance at the Gazebo, we thought the prayer was worth repeating here.

“Our Father and Our God, we praise You for Your goodness to our nation, giving us blessings far beyond what we deserve. Yet we know all is not right with America. We deeply need a moral and spiritual renewal to help us meet the many problems we face. Convict us of sin. Help us to turn to You in repentance and faith. Set our feet on the path of Your righteousness and peace. We pray today for our nation’s leaders. Give them the wisdom to know what is right, and the courage to do it. You have said, ‘Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord.’ May this be a new era for America, as we humble ourselves and acknowledge You alone as our Savior and Lord. This we pray in Your holy name, Amen.”
